History

BSL was initially established as a proprietary company but subsequently it was incorporated as a joint stock company in 2004, under company act 1991. BSL is engaged in international trading and project sponsorship and functions as representative of multinational companies to promote their products & services in Bangladesh.

Company’s Chairman

Major General Fazal-ur-Rahman, Psc, sidmc (retd)

The company’s Chairman, Gen Fazal, Psc, sidmc, having had long experience of working in very important appointments, both in the military as well as in the Civil sectors, retired in 1992 & established BSL in 1993. Subsequently, the said company was incorporated as a Joint Stock Company in 2004.
While in the service, he was President’s nominated member in the Planning Commission (the Civil Govt.’s topmost Development Planning Body) for long seven years and also a nominated Director of Ministry of Finance in the boards of a commercial (Rupali Bank) as well as a Development Bank (BSB) for over six years.

In the Army, he was Director of Ordnance Services (the department responsible for policy, planning, provision, procurement, storage and distribution of Military hardware and stores) for over seven years, and was also the Director General of Directorate General Defence Purchase (which is involved in all purchases of the Army, Navy & Air Force) and Military Secretary (responsible for promotion, posting, training, and all sort of career planning of the entire officers corps of the Army.

He retired from the post of Quarter Master General of Army in 1992. As QMG, he was the Chief Logistician responsible for billeting the army, and make provision & procurement of food, fodder & Piaf. In those appointments he interacted extensively, both with the civil as well as with military bureaucracy, the knowledge of which is so very important for promotion of business in Bangladesh. He is a non political person but maintains a very good rapport with the political heads of all the major political parties.

Managing Director

Syed Iftekhar Hyder

The Managing Director of the company has done his B. Com (Hons) & Masters in Management from Dhaka University and further studied Business Management in Australia. In the process, he and his family naturalized themselves as Australian Citizens. Subsequently Syed Iftekhar Hyder joined BSL as partner and became MD in 2004. By his sheer hard work, initiative and good contact, Syed Iftekhar Hyder has transformed BSL into a very successful business enterprise in Bangladesh. He maintains a very good rapport with the top officials and the business people of Dhaka and has the reputation of being very fair and dynamic in business dealings. He looks after the marketing and administrative aspects of the company. His deep involvement and charming social discourse has helped the company to generate business in new field of activities.

Executive Director

Engr. Md. Zillur Rahman

Engr. Md. Zillur Rahman is an Executive Director who is a graduate Civil Engineer, has wide experience in marketing and executing engineering projects and services for last over 30 years. Engr. Zillur Rahman has personally executed a number of prestigious projects of Bangladesh like VVIP terminal of Dhaka Airport (Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport—HSIA), renovation and expansion of Prime Minister’s Office, renovation and modernization of departure lounge of HSIA, interior of ROBI Telecom Head Office & Call Centres etc. Engr. Zillur Rahman, through practical experience has gained vast knowledge to execute any civil, electrical as well as mechanical projects also.
